Standards of Ethical Conduct 

Section 118 of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act requires the Board to set standards of clinical competence, cultural competence and ethical conduct for optometrists and dispensing opticians.  The Board has set the following Standards of Ethical Conduct.

Board Statement on Release and Receipt of Patient Information

The Board has fielded many queries from practitioners and members of the public about whether optometrists and dispensing opticians can charge for release of patient information. 

This Statement clarifies what is a complex issue, and outlines the legal obligations of practitioners with regard to the Privacy Act.
