Optometrists working with children and families pursue learning that enhances their role as ‘trusted guides

through the eye care system’. They seek out relevant CPD that supports them to engage in child and family

centered practice, conduct Evidence-Based Optometry embracing emerging research and technologies, and

communicate effectively about vision into paediatric health care, education and well-being.

Learning Objectives

Participating Optometrists are helped to identify their learning needs in:

  1. Understanding the developmental, educational and health needs of presenting children
  2. Keeping abreast of evidence-based practice in key areas including amblyopia, strabismus, myopia and

other vision disorders impacting on learning and quality of life

  1. Enacting effective professional communication with families and other professionals about vision

disorders and their treatment
