Title: Pain Management for Optometrists
This course will provide an introduction into the mechanisms of pain, the differences between acute and chronic pain and how these factors influence therapeutic management. The currently available medicine classes to manage pain, their mechanisms of action and their ophthalmic use will be discussed.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the differences in managing acute versus chronic pain
- Discuss the mechanisms of action of the different classes of pain medication
- Design appropriate pain management strategies for ophthalmic conditions in primary care
Title: A Stepped Approached to the Management of Ocular Allergy
Outline:
There are numerous potential treatment avenues in the management of ocular allergy. Different treatments have associated risks with their use as well as differences in effectiveness in managing allergy signs and symptoms. This course will present a stepped approach for consideration in the therapeutic management of ocular allergy
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the pathological mechanisms of allergy
- Understand the means which different treatments for allergy can affect the signs and symptoms of the disease
- Be able to develop a logical management approach in treating ocular allergy
