BOP Eye Care Evening – SPECIAL GLAUCOMA FOCUS April 2021

Date: Thu 22/04/2021 - Thu 22/04/2021

Provider: Bay Eye Care

Optometrist Credits: Not accredited yet.

Event Type(s): Seminar

The BOP Eye Care Evening is back for 2021 with our first evening taking place from 5ish-pm, (with a 6pm start to discussion) on Thursday 22nd April, with a 8pm finish. *NOTE THE DIFFERENT NIGHT TO USUAL!*

This is a regular 3-monthly educational evening designed to facilitate sharing and discussion of interesting cases and conditions amongst eye care practitioners in the Bay of Plenty area. I will be chairing and organising each evening.

Some light nibbles and drinks will be served from 5pm (courtesy of Cam Gordon from Titan Health– our sponsor for the evening) with a 6pm start to the discussion.

The format of the evenings will have three components:

  • a short presentation on an area of optometry specialty (We will leave this for next time to concentrate on the glaucoma cases).
  • a short presentation from one of the ophthalmologists in attendance from Tauranga Eye Specialists (Dr Sam Kain, with his glaucoma specialisation, has kindly agreed to contribute to the evening in April)
  • Sharing of GLAUCOMAcases from the attendees. In April we will have a special glaucoma focus so please save your non-glaucoma cases for the next session.

This format relies on the participation of attendees. All optometrists present will be encouraged to prepare a short 5-10 minute presentation (ideally with powerpoint or OCT/Photos/Topography/Visual Fields – please bring on a virus-free flashdrive) of a case(s) from their clinic that was interesting/challenging/unusual. In short something that we can learn something from. An ideal format would be as follows:

  • History
  • Clinical Findings
  • Differential Diagnosis
  • Treatment/Management
  • Discussion (ideally with clinical pearls or information from the literature related to the condition/case)

Following each case, discussion from the audience is encouraged. This is not a chance to grill/critique the optometrist that is sharing the case, but rather to learn more about a presentation of an eye problem in order to educate us or when we may need to do to manage something similar.

Have a think about the interesting GLAUCOMA cases you can remember over the last 6 months and plan ahead of time to have something to share

Please RSVP to alex@bayeyecare.co.nz by 1 week before for catering purposes. Please also indicate that you have a case that you can prepare for a short case report, or will be on the look out for one!
