Scleral lenses have had a huge resurgence in use over the last 5 years because of their comfort, stability and their ability to vault over even the most challenging cornea by having their landing zone on the conjunctiva/sclera and not on the cornea. But is there any potential downside for using these large lenses to fit the irregular cornea where corneal health is often not optimum?
Corneo-scleral lenses in by far the majority of cases, offer most of the advantages of scleral lenses, without the possible disadvantages that scleral lenses can have.
This lecture will look at the factors that effect corneal health and compare these in scleral lenses and corneo-scleral lenses.
