Background information about SARS-COV-2 and COVID-19, and transmission routes including if the virus can be isolated from tears.

Discussion of PPE guidelines developed internationally and those developed in NZ. Differences between seeing symptomatic or asymptomatic patients in the consultation room and waiting rooms, for ophthalmology vs optometry. The PPE measures as recommended by Capital Coast DHB guidelines from Low to high risk scenarios.

Specific considerations discussed: tonometry and disinfection of Goldmann probes, work specific clothing, surgical masks vs N95 masks and slit-lamp breath shields.
