The Eye Surgery Associates’ annual Dinner Symposium is being held on Tuesday the 15th of June at Five Knots, Tamaki Yacht Club, 30 Tamaki Drive, Mission Bay,  6pm for a 6:30pm start.

Our guest speaker this year is Dr James McKelvie who will be presenting on a range of topics as outlined below. James’ sub-specialty expertise is cornea, anterior segment, cataract and refractive surgery. James is based at the Waikato DHB, Hamilton Eye Clinic, the University of Auckland and is the CEO of CatTrax.

CatTrax is a Health Intelligence and Information Technology company founded by James in 2016. Its vision is to deliver innovative cutting-edge solutions to dramatically enhance the provision, delivery and quality of ophthalmic care in New Zealand. Using a range of cloud-based technologies and expert domain knowledge, CatTrax maximises efficiency and reduces costs by optimising resource allocation for healthcare providers.

James’ research interests include equity in access to healthcare, improving health outcomes using big data and AI, intraocular lens optics and higher-order aberrations, keratoconus, corneal transplantation, surgical risk and all aspects of cataract surgery.

For our dinner symposium James’ topics will include:

  • Ophthalmic surgery in New Zealand: a nationwide comprehensive summary of all major eye surgery.
  • The importance of digital transformation in ophthalmology and patient-reported outcomes. Shifting focus to meaningful outcomes that matter to patients.

Dr Hussain Patel will present on Glaucoma Collaborative Care and results of the ‘Glaucoma Agreement Study’ evaluating Optometry vs Ophthalmology glaucoma care.

Dr Monika Pradhan’s topic is Challenging surgical management in advanced diabetic retinopathy.

Dr Yi Wei Goh will present on Periocular tumours.
