Glaucoma is a diagnosis of exclusion. With this in mind, this article presents several cases of optic neuropathies seen in a glaucoma clinic that are not glaucoma. In doing so, the article reinforces the importance of the differential diagnosis process. Along the way, we provide some clinically relevant tips for clinicians to apply to their practice.
At the completion of this CPD Activity, participants should be able to:
- Understand how to apply the clinical characteristics and definition of glaucoma when differentially diagnosing the disease,
- Be able to identify other causes of RNFL thinning and understand differentiating clinical findings, and
- Understand the value of longitudinal data in the differential diagnosis process.
