Vacancy - Professional Standards Advisor

The Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Board (the Board) is calling for applications for the position of Professional Standards Advisor to the Board. The successful applicant will work part time, approximately 1 day per week, supporting the Board by working with optometrists and dispensing opticians to ensure that Board-approved standards of clinical and cultural competence and ethical conduct are maintained.

Some of the key responsibilities of this position will include:

  • assessing practitioner self audit material and providing recommendations for feedback and management to the Board;
  • drafting terms of reference for competence reviews;
  • assisting with the implementation of competence programmes and the monitoring of practitioners working through Board competence programmes and/or Board re-certification requirements, as necessary.
  • providing advice to the Registrar on notifications received about practitioners and the level of risk posed to the public.

The Board is currently consulting on a proposal to prescribe a new qualification for the Optical Dispensing Scope of Practice - Certificate IV in Optical Dispensing, Australasian College of Optical Dispensing.

Review of Board Fees 2016

The Board also recently consulted on a proposal to impose a small disciplinary levy on dispensing opticians for the 2017/18 practising year.

Decision

After careful consideration of the two submissions the Board received on this consultation, the Board resolved to confirm its proposal to impose a small disciplinary levy on dispensing opticians for the 2017/18 practising year.
